Wraped in the exquisiteness of Vindhya and Satpura range, the glorious Amarkantak is one of the most famous pilgrim hubs in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This heavenly destination is well-known as the origin of two great and renowned rivers, the Narmada and the Sone that unleash several stories about the history of Amarkantak. Located at a height of 1065 meters in the central Indian region, this legendary town is of great importance and is known as Theertharaja meaning the King of pilgrim sites. It also holds a very important place in the success of Madhya Pradesh Tourism. Amarkantak in Sanskrit means the ‘eternal source,’ which is significantly linked with the sacred river Narmada, one of the most sacred and unique rivers of India. This place is visited by a large number of people every year including religious as well as nature-loving tourists, who loves to explore the uniqueness of the place. Some people believe that the famous Sanskrit poet Kalidas named the place ‘Amrakoot’, as there are a lot of mango (amra) trees in the town and so the place became ‘Amarkoot’.
विंध्य और सतपुड़ा पर्वतमाला की खूबसूरती से घिरा, शानदार अमरकंटक मध्य प्रदेश राज्य के सबसे प्रसिद्ध तीर्थस्थलों में से एक है। यह स्वर्गीय गंतव्य दो महान और प्रसिद्ध नदियों, नर्मदा और सोन के उद्गम के रूप में प्रसिद्ध है, जो अमरकंटक के इतिहास के बारे में कई कहानियाँ बताती हैं। मध्य भारतीय क्षेत्र में 1065 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर स्थित, यह पौराणिक शहर बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है और इसे तीर्थराज के रूप में जाना जाता है जिसका अर्थ है तीर्थ स्थलों का राजा। यह मध्य प्रदेश पर्यटन की सफलता में भी बहुत महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रखता है। संस्कृत में अमरकंटक का अर्थ है ‘शाश्वत स्रोत’, जो भारत की सबसे पवित्र और अनोखी नदियों में से एक पवित्र नदी नर्मदा से महत्वपूर्ण रूप से जुड़ा हुआ है। इस स्थान पर हर साल बड़ी संख्या में लोग आते हैं, जिनमें धार्मिक और प्रकृति प्रेमी पर्यटक भी शामिल हैं, जो इस स्थान की विशिष्टता का पता लगाना पसंद करते हैं। कुछ लोगों का मानना है कि प्रसिद्ध संस्कृत कवि कालिदास ने इस स्थान का नाम ‘अमरकूट’ रखा, क्योंकि शहर में आम (अमरा) के बहुत सारे पेड़ हैं और इसलिए यह स्थान ‘अमरकूट’ बन गया।
