Jatashankar Dham is a very beautiful natural and holy place. Which is 15 km from Bijawar tehsil in Chhatarpur district of Bundelkhand region, surrounded by dense forest and beautiful hill, Jatashankar Dham temple complex, which is also known as Kedarnath Dham of Bundelkhand. Lord Shiva sitting in Jatashankar Dham is always anointed by the stream of water falling from Gaumukh. There is always an influx of devotees here. This temple is a big center of sacred religious faith. The high mountains around here, the beauty of the lush green forest is made on sight.
There is a large number of monkeys and other wild animals are also found here. There is a huge crowd at this place on Amavasya. There is a lot of crowd of tourists and devotees throughout the month of Sawan. Here there is an influx of people from the surrounding districts and from different parts of India. There is good facility for the tourists to stay here. The natural shade of this place, the high mountains, the waterfall and the temple complex surrounded by the forest, the holy watercourse presents a very mesmerizing view.
In Jatashankar Dham, many beautifully decorated shops are found around. From where devotees can buy prasad makeup items. As soon as you enter Jatashankar Dham, there is a huge statue of Shiva. Many small temples are present under this statue. There is a big Dharamshala nearby, where kirtan takes place. To reach the temple, one climbs hundreds of stairs and goes upstairs. So one gets to see a very beautiful view of nature.
During the rainy season, many waterfalls are formed and sometimes a large amount of water starts flowing on the stairs from the mountains. At that time the view there is very beautiful. Due to the waterfalls in the temple premises, water is spread everywhere on the floor. There is a lot of water tank inside the temple, there is a big waterfall inside the temple. There are three kunds at the entrance of the temple. In which the water gets cold and heat according to the season. The water of this pool is full of medicinal properties.
There are stairs to go up from the side of the temple courtyard. When we go up the stairs, it looks very beautiful waving all the flags above, the temple complex from above and the big waterfall falling in the temple is a wonderful sight.
Significance of Kund:- There are many bathing pools at this place. In this comes natural and medicinal water of the mountains. The importance of this water is that bathing in this water cures many skin diseases.
Bathing in the pool in skin diseases: - There are many small and big pools in Jatashankar, in which the deadly skin diseases are easily cured by taking bath. Here is a unique way of bathing in the pool, bathing in it cures all the four diseases around the world. First of all, bathing is done by lying on the back in the pool. After this, in the second phase, take a bath under a large waterfall present in the temple, because the water of the spring contains water containing hundreds of herbs and medicinal elements present on the hills.
By consuming this water, this medicinal water purifies the internal body and heals the body. In the third phase, small pools present near the temple have been made. In these also water full of medicinal properties comes from the mountains. Therefore, water comes out of these three ponds and takes bath in turn. In this way the third, fourth, and fifth baths are completed. After this Jatashankar has darshan of Mahadev.
Establishment of the temple: - This temple was established by King Vivastu in the 14th century. It is said that Lord Jatashankar Mahadev himself appeared to King Vivastu and you told about this place, soon after that the king ordered the soldiers to find that place. The soldiers found this place with hard work. The Shivling, which came out at the same place, got its life consecrated by law. Only after that the temple was built. The king had also done a havan at the same place.
Popular stories :- 1) Where is it that when a minister of the king had got leprosy? Then the king made the minister sit in a havan in the temple premises and got his body purified and applied the paste on the minister's body, then the skin disease was cured.
2)- Everyone was afraid of Murat Singh, the most dreaded dacoit of Bundelkhand, he used to kidnap people and ask for ransom, No He used to trouble people a lot on giving, he had a lot of panic. Suddenly he got white spot disease. Once he was wandering in the forest in search of water.
Then the robber was shown a water tank, when the robber took water from the water tank present in the temple, then all his white spots were cured. After that he too got absorbed in the devotion of Lord Shiva. and left all wrongdoings. People have deep faith in this temple.

Train and Bus Route:- Bhopal is at a distance of 330 kms, from there one can come by both bus and train. It is situated at a distance of 15 Kms from Bijawar Tehsil of Chhatarpur and 55 Kms from Chhatarpur District Headquarters.
जटाशंकर धाम बहुत ही सुन्दर प्राकृतिक व पवित्र स्थान है | जो बुंदेलखंड क्षेत्र के छतरपुर जिले में बिजावर तहसील से १५किमी घने जंगल और सुन्दर पहाड़ी से घिरा जटाशंकर धाम मंदिर परिसर ,जो बुंदेलखंड का केदारनाथ धाम के नाम से भी जाना जाता है | जटाशंकर धाम में विराजमान भगवान शिव का हमेशा गौमुख से गिरती जल की धारा से अभिषेक होता रहता है | यहाँ श्रद्धालुओ का हमेशा ताँता लगा रहता है | यह मंदिर पवित्र धार्मिक आस्था का बड़ा केंद्र है | यहाँ आसपास ऊंचे ऊंचे पहाड़ ,हरे भरे जंगल की सुंदरता देखते ही बनती है |
यहाँ पर बंदरो की बहुत अधिक संख्या है और अन्य जंगली जानवर भी पाए जाते है | इस स्थान पर आमवस्या को भारी भीड़ होती है | पुरे सावन महीने में पर्यटक और श्रद्धालुओ की बहुत अधिक भीड़ होती है | | यहाँ पर आसपास के जिले से व् पुरे भारत के अलग अलग हिस्सों से लोगो का ताँता लगा रहता है| यहाँ पर पर्यटकों को ठहरने के लिए अच्छी सुविधा है | इस स्थान की प्राकृतिक छटा ,ऊंचे पहाड़ ,झरने और जंगल से घिरा मंदिर परिसर , पवित्र जलकुंड बहुत ही मनमोहन दृश्य प्रस्तुत करते है |
जटाशंकर धाम में आसपास बहुत सारी सुन्दर सजी धजी दुकाने देखने को मिल जाती है | जहाँ से श्रद्धालु प्रसाद श्रृंगार ka सामान खरीद सकते हैं| जटाशंकर धाम में प्रवेश करते ही विशाल शिव जी की प्रतिमा विराजमान है | इस प्रतिमा के नीचे बहुत से छोटे छोटे मंदिर विद्धमान है | पास में बहुत बड़ा धर्मशाला है ,जहा पर कीर्तन होता रहता है | मंदिर में पहुंचने के लिए सैकड़ो सीढ़ियों से चढ़ कर ऊपर जाते है| तो प्राकृतिक का बहुत सुन्दर नजारा देखने को मिल जाता है |
बरसात के मौसम में यहाँ की सुंदरता तो देखते ही बनती है | बारिश के मौसम में कई झरने बन जाते है और कभी कभी तो पहाड़ो से भरी मात्रा में पानी सीढ़ियों पर कल कल के बहने लगता है | उस समय वहां का दृश्य बहुत सुन्दर होता है |मंदिर परिसर में झरनो की वजह से सब जगह पर फर्श पर पानी फैला रहता है | मंदिर के अंदर बहुत जलकुंड है , मंदिर के अंदर बड़ा झरना मौजूद है | मंदिर के दरवाजे पर तीन कुंड मौजूद है | जिनमे मौसम के अनुसार पानी ठंडा और गर्मी हो जाता है | यह कुंड का जल औषधीय गुणों से परिपूर्ण है
मंदिर प्रांगण के बगल से ऊपर जाने के लिए सीढ़ियों बनी हुई है | जब हम सीढ़ियों से ऊपर जाते है, तो ऊपर सारे ध्वजा लहराते हुए अति सुन्दर लगता है , ऊपर से मंदिर परिसर और मंदिर में गिरता बड़ा झरना बहुत ही अदभुत दृश्य होता है |
कुंड का महत्व :- इस स्थान पर स्नान के कई सारे कुंड बने हुए है |इसमें पहाड़ो का प्राकृतिक और औषधीय जल आता है | इस जल की महत्व ये है , कि इस जल में स्नान करने से बहुत सारे चर्म रोग दूर हो जाते है |
चर्म रोग में कुंड में स्नान :- जटाशंकर में छोटे बड़े कई कुंड मौजूद है जिनमे स्नान करने से घातक चर्म रोग आसानी से ठीक हो जाता है | यहाँ पर कुंड में नहाने का एक अनूठा तरीका है ,इसमें नहाने से दुनिया भर के सभी चार रोग ठीक हो जाता है | सबसे पहले कुंड में पीठ के बल लेट कर स्नान किया जाता है | इसके बाद दूसरे चरण में मंदिर में मौजूद बड़े से झरने के नीचे स्नान करते है , क्योकि झरने के जल में पहाडों पर मौजूद सैकडों जड़ी बूटी और औषधीय तत्वों वाला जल होता है |
इस जल को ग्रहण करने से ये औषधीय जल शरीर की आंतरिक शुद्धि करता है और शरीर को ठीक करता है | तृतीय चरण में मंदिर के पास मौजूद छोटे छोटे कुंड बने है | इनमे भी पहाड़ो से औषधीय गुणों से परिपूर्ण जल आता है | अतः इन तीनो कुंडो से जल निकल कर बारी बारी से स्नान करते है | इस तरह तृतीय ,चतुर्थ ,और पंचम स्नान पूर्ण हो जाता है | इसके बाद जटाशंकर महादेव के दर्शन करते है
मंदिर की स्थापना :- इस मंदिर की स्थापना १४ वी शताब्दी में राजा विवस्तु ने कराया था | कहा जाता है की राजा विवस्तु को स्वयं भगवन जटाशंकर महादेव ने दर्शन दिए और आपने इस स्थान के बारे में बताया जिसके तुंरत बाद ही राजा ने आपने सैनिको को उस स्थान को ढूंढने का आदेश दिया | सिपाहियों ने कठिन म्हणत से इस स्थान को ढूढ़ा | उसी स्थान पर निकले शिवलिंग को विधि विधान से प्राण प्रतिष्ठा करवाई | उसके बाद ही मंदिर का निर्माण कराया गया है | राजा ने उसी स्थान पर हवन भी कराया था |
प्रचलित कहानियाँ :- 1)- कहां जाता हैं की जब राजा के एक मंत्री को कोढ़ रोग हो गया था | तब राजा ने मंदिर परिसर में मंत्री को हवन में बैठा कर उसके शरीर का शुद्धिकरण कराया और मंत्री के शरीर में लेप लगवाया तो चर्म रोग ठीक हो गया था|
२)- बुंदेलखंड के सबसे खूंखार डाकू मूरत सिंह से सभी डरते थे वह लोगो को अगवा कर लेता था और फिरौती मांगता था, नहीं देने पर लोगो को बहुत परेशान करता था उसका बहुत ज्यादा ही आतंक था | अचानक उसे सफ़ेद दाग़ रोग हो गया | एक बार जंगल में पानी की खोज में भटक रहा था |
तब डाकू को एक जलकुंड दिखा ,डाकू ने मंदिर में मौजूद जलकुंड का जल ग्रहण किया तो उसके सभी सफ़ेद दाग ठीक हो गया | उसके बाद वो भी भगवान शिव की भक्ति में लीन हो गया | और सभी गलत कामो को छोड़ दिया | इस मन्दिर से लोगो की गहरी आस्था है |

ट्रेन और बस मार्ग :- भोपाल से ३३० किलोमीटर की दुरी पर है वहा से बस और ट्रेन दोनों से आ सकते है | छतरपुर की बिजावर तहसील से १५ किलोमीटर और छतरपुर जिला मुख्यालय से ५५ किलोमीटर की दुरी पर स्थित है |
